Substitute | Ms. Kelly at Culture PD

Objective: Period 2, 3, and 4 Jedis will be able to annotate A Quilt of A Country and complete every section of the handout.

Agenda:

1. Meditation and Journaling: Who has been your biggest supporter? Write that person a thank you letter.

2. Complete Unit 1 pg 10-17 in Class (the rest you will do for Homework). The sub will stamp how far you finished in class.
  • Rank A Quilt of a Country Concept Vocabulary
  • Review first Read NONFICTION strategies 
  • 1st Read of A Quilt of Country 
    • annotate using the Jedi Bookmark-- also follow the notes in the margin to annotate.
  • Complete the Comprehension Check 1-6 using complete sentences. 
    • Write #6, the 1 paragraph summary (MIEIEC), on page 16 on the blank half of the page.
      • Main Idea in 25 words; 
      • Introduce 1st piece of Evidence from text that support your main idea; 
      • Evidence in form of quote that supports your main idea and cite using author's last name and page number. 
      • Introduce 2nd piece Evidence from text that support your main idea; 
      • Evidence in form of quote that supports your main idea and cite using author's last name and page number. 
      • Concluding sentence that restates your main idea and evidence in one neat final statement.

Homework:
Advice: Chunk up your homework. Don’t try to do it all in one day the night before. It's not possible to do well at the last minute.

Tuesday Homework

1. Read 30 (If you have Ms. Haislip, your logs must be signed by her)

2. 15 min Study North America-- Trial 2 is 9/26-9/27

3. Unit 1 pg 18 
  • 2nd Read of A Quilt of Country 
  • Close Read the text: Reread the text and annotate a second time using the Close Read Annotation model. 
  • Analyze the text: On a separate sheet of paper, analyze the text using the one piece of evidence. TIEAC (not a double TIEAC) 

Wednesday Homework

  • Practice: Fill out the graphic organizer using evidence from the text

    • Complete the Read it graphic organizer 
  • Write it
    • Do not complete pg 22 on the last page (that’s for the next reading)
