A Quilt of A Country | Read & Analyze

Objective: Jedis will be able to

  • use the Jedi bookmark to annotate "A Quilt of a Country" 
  • answer the comprehension questions with CER
  • Identify the parts of each sentence in each answer and which sentence structure was used for each sentence.

4. "A Quilt of a country" | Read & Annotate using the Jedi Bookmark
  • Use the Jedi bookmark to annotate "A Quilt of a Country" -- make sure to use the symbol for each annotation.
  • Then, answer the Comprehension Questions in three well-written sentences using CER.
    1. a clear CLAIM
    2. EVIDENTIARY support from the text
    3. vocabulary-based (REASONING) analysis of the quote that directly links it back to the claim.
  • Once you have written the entire answer, go back through and identify the parts of each sentence in the answer like we practiced last class:
      • circle the subject of each clause
      • box the verb of each clause 
      • underline independent clause
      • double underline dependent clause
      • label coordinating conjunction
      • highlight subordinating conjunctions yellow
      • label relative pronouns
        • Then identify which sentence structure was used.

          • complex
          • compound-complex
Homework:
1. Read 30
2. Central and South America Map (Turn in for a grade on Monday) Trial 3 will be on Oct 31/Nov 1
3. Study for North America retakes (Last day of retakes will be October 30th)
4. Finish Comprehension questions for "A Quilt of a Country" using CER and identifying parts of sentence/sentence structure (as explained above).
